This coin is struck in Khotan (or Hotan/Hetian). On the obverse, we see the characters 光绪银钱 or Guang Xu (the penultimate Chinese Emperor from 1875-1908) and Yin Qian (Silver miscal/mace/currency). There is a noticeable weak strike on the right side which is a testament to the rather “crude” hand struck methods of Sinkiang (when compared to say, Kwangtung or the Central Mint). The reverse has a flanking Uygur script where the left is Zarb and the right is (Kho)tan. The reverse is also a bit weakly struck on one side. Overall, the coin is in a strong EF condition and has a beautiful and uncleaned dullish patina and circulation cameo. This is an UNDATED type, circa 1878.
Some interesting notes are the elongated planchet with silver that is 95% fine and 1.79g, along with the rather crude and not standardized Chinese characters. For instance, as a native Chinese person, those strokes are not too aligned---and jumbled or garbled.
This piece is graded PCGS XF 45, second to one that is recently graded as an AU 50! It is the PCGS plate coin.Really nice original grayish tone and underlying golden tone. Nice mostly centered strike.
