CHINA (Republic)- SINKIANG PROVINCE | RARE 1930 (庚午) Overstrike Kashgar Mint 10 Cash on Earlier 1910s Undertype | OVERTYPE: Y 44.2 and Zhou and Li XJ.56 | A Scarce and "Contemporary Counterfeit" of Republican Sinkiang Province
An interesting overstrike type that I have just not encountered with my rather beginning or intermediate exposure to Sinkiang COPPER (RED) CASH issues. This is just an interesting piece that needs some further research on its veracity. It seems that it is a contemporary counterfeit from the period---which honestly makes it rare and gives it character. We see that the undertype is the larger (and thinner) 10 cash flan of the crossed flags with dates above or below types, WITH HEJIRA, while the overtype is the 1930 issue CROSSED FLAG TYPE with NO HEJIRA or TURKISH legends. This is just an interesting combination that I must do research on, such as the tumultuous period of 1930s Sinkiang.
More research will need to come. Thank you!
Provenance: From An Old American Dealer's Inventory, with 2x2 kept; "Krause KM Y# A44.2, Kashgar, 10 Cash, XF, RARE." |
