Shanghai Municipal Police Medal 1923 - 1943
Has anyone seen this medal for sale or in a collection in China ?This medal was for Police bravery in Shanghai between 1923 and 1943.
First Class in silver and 2nd Class in Bronze.
I have seen this kind of medal in an auction of Morton and Eden. The photo you posted is actually a long services medal. Similar medals are sold in Morton and Eden, Catalogue 102, lot 1747, lot 1748 and lot 1749 (group lot). If you keep an eye on medal auctions of London auction houses, you will find one for sale. 本帖最后由 celtic_coin 于 2021-2-24 18:50 编辑
A collection of Shanghai Municipal Police Medals can be valuable. For example, Spink sold a group of Shanghai Municipal Police medals for 8500 GBP. https://www.spink.com/lot/18003000516 上海工部局警务处的奖章,有趣的。 This medal has 'For Distinguished Conduct' on the reverse and is much rarer than the Long Service Medal which says 'For Long Service' on the reverse. The Long Service Medal was always in silver. celtic_coin 发表于 2021-2-24 18:15

Hi Celtic-Coin
Lots 1747, 1748, and 1749 in Morton & Eden Cat. 102 are all 'Long Service' medals and not 'Distinguished Conduct' medals. If I am correct the last time a 'Distinguished Conduct' medal appeared in auction in UK was DNW in 1996 and in the US Stering Auction in 2015.
Only 220+ officers received this medal - mostly Chinese, whilst 1000's received the 'Long Service' medal. HKGwailo 发表于 2021-2-26 09:01

Yes - 8 to Western officers, 1 to a Japanese, and 1 to an Indian.
I am trying to find out the name / rank of the Indian Officer who got the 1st Class medal.
Do you have any idea ?
I am also looking for a list of the medal winners in 1941 (both 1st and 2nd Class) Based on the ribbon colours, it appears to be No.348 in the catalogue (second class in bronze). I don't think there is a published roll of recipients for the Shanghai medals. 傑姆仕 发表于 2021-2-27 12:06

No. 348 in which catalogue ?
I have a list of all the recipients except for the year 1941.
The Shanghai Municipal Council Annual Report for 1941 should have the list but I donot have this Annual Report. With all my respect 傑姆仕 发表于 2021-2-28 05:11
