Copper Coin Patterns Emperor Wilhelm II designed by Karl Goetz
Karl Goetz
(June 28, 1875—September 8, 1950)
German medalist and sculptor. Born on June 28th, 1875, in Augsburg, Goetz attended the school of art in Augsburg, and continued his education in schools of art in Dresden, Leipzig, Berlin, and Düsseldorf from 1895 to 1897. He then went to Utrecht, in Holland, and later to Le Locle, during the years 1897 to 1899, spent 5 years in Paris, and in 1904 moved to Munich. He grew to love this ancient city and it became his home. One of the proudest moments of Goetz's life came when the city of Munich awarded him rights as a citizen. He lived there for forty six years, until his death on September 8, 1950.
In 1913 Karl Goetz designed his first patterns. He made two sets, one depicting Emperor Wilhelm II, and the other set showing King Ludwig of Bavavia. One GEM BU condition copper pattern set of Emperor Wilhelm II is showing as following:

Obverse: Large bust, right, in cuirassier breastplate and lobster-tail eagle helmet. WILHELM II DEUTSCHER KAISER within pearled border. "G" above right shoulder.
Reverse: Eagle stands on small shield, wing protects imperial crown. DEUTSCHES REICH 5 MARK 1913 all within pearled border.
【2】1913 Struck Copper, 2 Mark Coin Pattern, 28.0mm, 9.10g. Schaaf 111G3
Obverse: Armored bust,left. in circle. WILHELM II•DEUTSCHER•KAISER•KŒNIG v. PREUSSEN surrounded by beaded border.
Reverse: Eagle atop small shield with left wing extended to the right. Ribboned crown above DEUTSCHES REICH all surrounded with beaded border.

Obverse: Armored bust, right, within a pearled border. Along perimeter; WILHELM II•DEUTSCHER•KŒNIG v. PREUSSEN.
Reverse: Standing eagle, head left, supports shield in Collar of the Black Eagle.

Obverse: Wilhelm bus,t right, in cuirassier armor, lobster-tail eagle helmet, within pearled border. WILHELM II DEUTSCHER KAISER between outer wreathed rim border and inner pearled border.
Reverse: Imperial crown/scepter over "10" within pearled border. DEUTSCHES REICH •MARK• 1913. Wreathed rim.

Obverse: Laureate draped bust, right, WILHELM II•DEUTSCHER•KAISER•KŒNIG v. PREUSSEN

A magnificent artist with a creative mind and artistic skills.
Thanks for sharing! Karl Goetz made so many gorgeous medals in his age. Some of them satirized the government and authority. He always used his creation showing his mind about suffering, which made him as an artist not just a engraver or designer.
